How to thrive at work after maternity leave or a career break

Join us for an insightful panel discussion facilitated by Dipti Thakrar. The panel members will talk about their experiences of returning to work after maternity leave or another type of career break, and reflect on what they wish they had known at the time which would have helped them to reintegrate back into the workplace quicker. They will also share tips on changes they have seen in their organisations over the past few years which you may be able to take away and implement where you work. There will be plenty of opportunity for open discussion and sharing of ideas between attendees. If you either have been on maternity leave and returned, or know of colleagues who have that you want to better support, or perhaps think it will be you in the future, then you don’t want to miss this discussion. You will go away with more confidence to talk about what you need to make a success of your return work (whatever that means to you) and lots of practical ideas of what has worked for other people. Why this would be relevant to you: we hope to give you tools and knowledge to equip yourself to transition back to work after a career break.  Cost: free Panel Biographies  Sheena McGuinness Sheena is head of renewables and a tax partner in RSM’s corporate tax department. She has spent time in both practise and in industry, where she was head of tax for shell renewables. She is also a mother of 3 children ranging in age from 4 to 10 and, having gone through maternity leave three times, has seen the highs and lows of being a working mother, the challenges of returning to work and juggling the pressures of home and corporate life whilst still trying to maintain a semblance of control and sanity!  Georgie Bole Georgie is an Associate Director in the corporate tax department of RSM based in the London office.  She has been working within corporate tax for the last ten years within practice on a range of different clients, predominately within the consumer market sector.  Georgie has two daughters with a third baby on the way and has taken all of her maternity breaks whilst working within tax.  Georgie has experience of both getting ready to head off on maternity leave and then settling back in after a year’s break – dealing with house moves, finding some last minute childcare and trying to get back on top of her technical knowledge whilst legislation has moved on (just don’t ask her to recite the corporate interest restriction rules)! Pat Keane  Pat Keane is a Director at BDO, he has also worked at Moore Stephens and KPMG. Pat’s specialism is in the Personal Tax . Pat had to take time off work unexpectedly due to medical reasons and he would like to share with others his experience and the issues he faced on his return.” Katy Bond Katy Bond is a Director in Global Mobility Services at Grant Thornton. In her career, she has taken a 6 month sabbatical, working for a charitable organisation in Tanzania, where she helped disadvantaged women set up small businesses, and earlier this year returned from a 10 month maternity leave.
