Penny loaves, Poisoning, Poverty and Pubs - a Walthamstow walk

Join qualified tour guide Joanna Moncrieff on a history walk around the mean streets of the Queen’s Road area of Walthamstow. Street names, building styles and plaques all give clues as to the area’s fascinating history. Former field boundaries are reflected in the street pattern and former pubs have connections to local events one of which made national headlines. People featured on the walk include a family of publicans who are buried in a rather impressive grave in Queen’s Road Cemetery and the philanthropist who bequeathed penny loaves to help the poor. The walk will last 90 minutes and will start and finish at the Park Hut café, in Thomas Gamuel Park. Free refreshments will be provided at the end of the tour for those on the walk. This walk is in conjunction with and is being funded by the Queen's Boundary Community and is part of an event organised by them that day at Thomas Gamuel Park. Joanna Moncrieff is a qualified City of Westminster and Clerkenwell & Islington Tour Guide and for the past 10 years has created and led walks both in Central London and her own neck of the woods in Walthamstow and Chingford.  Tickets are free but if you find you subsequently can't make it please cancel your place. To cancel find your booking confirmation which has cancellation instructions. Getting there Thomas Gamuel Park is about 15 minutes' walk from Walthamstow Central tube station. Engineering work: Please note there are no trains on either of the London Overground routes running through Walthamstow on this date ie no trains from Chingford to Hackney Downs and no trains on the Barking to Gospel Oak line running through Walthamstow Queen's Road. Please check TfL Journey Planner for more info planned-track-closures A link to all of Joanna's upcoming walks both locally and in Central London can be found here
