Introduction to Buddhism - Half-day course (Kensington)

Introduction to Buddhism Half-day course on Sat 31 August | 10am - 1pm "Abandoning non-virtuous actions, practising virtuous actions and controlling the mind. This is Buddhadharma" - Buddha Shakyamuni, Vinaya Sutra 2,500 years after Buddha first began to teach, his message continues to resonate. Although Buddhism is an ancient wisdom that first appeared in the East, the practices taught by Buddha are timeless and universally applicable, providing powerful solutions to many of the problems faced by the people of the modern world. Although aspects of Buddha's teachings such as training in mindfulness, meditation, loving kindness practice and so forth are becoming increasingly popular, many people lack a basic understanding of where these teachings came from and the original framework within which they were taught are key to them taking full effect. This course will explore: - What is Buddhism? - The essential principles of the Buddhist way of life - How we can benefit from this extraordinary ancient wisdom in modern times. There will also be an opportunity to experience the peace of a guided meditation. This course is suitable for everyone from complete beginners to experienced meditators. What will each session consist of? Each session will include a combination of teachings and guided meditations with an opportunity to ask questions at the end and socialize with like-minded people during the break time. Do I need to bring anything or wear anything special? No. All sessions will take place on chairs but there are optional cushions if you prefer to sit cross-legged. You don’t need to bring anything else with you, but some people like to take notes during the session, so feel free to bring a paper and pen. What if I’m new to this?Everyone is welcome to participate in this course and will benefit both new and experienced people alike. Our reception staff will happily recommend some follow on reading or classes after the course if you are interested. More questions?Contact info@kmclondon.org and someone will happily help you with your query.
