Index on Censorship Presents: Banned Book Club

We’ve teamed up with Index on Censorship once again, this time marking Banned Books Week by celebrating some of the most taboo-busting, sordid, and sensational books around.  Subverting the traditional book club format, a panel of special guests—chaired by CEO of Index on Censorship Jodie Ginsberg and including editor of Sex+ magazine Kim Loliya and novelist and playwright Courttia Newland—will go head-to-head, pitching their favourite banned book to the audience and opening up on the themes that saw them banned in the first place. This provocative and lively evening aims to challenge the notion of censorship through fresh and insightful engagement with work once thought too scandalous for the bookshelves.  Index on Censorship is a non-profit organisation that campaigns for and defends freedom of expression worldwide, publishing work by censored writers and artists, promoting debate, and monitoring threats to free speech.  Full panel line up to be announced shortly.    Tickets: £5 Standard Venue: Level 6, Foyles 107 Charing Cross Road  *Not a Foyalty member but would like to gain access to discounted tickets, exclusive offers and giveaways? Click here to register free today!
