Drawing Faces at The National Portrait Gallery

Working from the marble busts and paintings in the National Portrait Gallery this course focuses on helping you to capture the character and emotion in a face by breaking down the features and spacial relationships involved in that face into forms that you understand and then can recreate with accuracy. We will be working in a range of materials (coloured papers, dark and light pencils, graphite sticks and water soluble pencils) and as usual the focus will be on helping you to see form and shade and capture both photorealistic realism  and impressionistic similarity. DETAILS FOR THE DAY ITSELF Where and when to meet. This course takes place at the National Portrait Gallery, St Martins Place, WC2H OHE The nearest tube is Leicester Square which is on the northern line. It is a good idea to check for any planned transport disruption to make sure you will be able to arrive on time. We meet at 10.15 at the benches at the foot of the large escalator opposite the main  reception desk in what is called the Ondaatje Wing Main Hall. Its just in and up the steps from the main entrance. Please try not to be late but if you are please call Rosa on 07883 068 325 to be directed to where we are. Classes finish at 5.15pm Materials   You need to bring your own sketchbook but all other materials including stools will be provided by us, I recomend that you invest in the largest sketch book you can, preferably A3, hardbacked and ringbound so you can fold it over and rest it comfortably on your knee. -   Lunch There is a break for lunch between 1.15 and 2.15.
