      EVENT DETAILS
Spanish Book Club (May) - with tapas and wine

Join our Spanish Book Club once a month, where we discuss contemporary and classic books in Spanish, whilst enjoying delicious food and drink from the author's country of birth. For May we will be reading the captivating novel, Aura by the famed Mexican novelist, Felipe Montero. WHAT'S INCLUDED: The participation fee includes a copy of the book, food from Mexico, and a session co-ordinated by our experienced tutor, Luis. The book club is held by the school, Spanish Marks, and all proceeds are going to the charity, Asocaicion Fatima based in Guatemala. The maximum number of participants is 12, so we recommend to book today as there is great demand! EVENT DESCRIPTION: We have a relaxed atmosphere, with most of the discussion in Spanish. It is an event for those who love literature and Spanish, and want to spend an evening discussing the chosen book, whilst enjoying light bites and a glass of wine. It is not a language lesson, but an informal discussion about the book and it's themes, allowing you to practice Spanish in a warm, friendly and culturally-rich setting! Receive a copy of Aura when you purchase a ticket, so you can read it in advance. Buy before 15th April to receive free delivery of the book. Tickets bought after this date will need to collect the book from Hotel Strand Continental, 143 Strand, WC2R 1JA. ABOUT "AURA" AND LEVEL OF SPANISH: Aura is a short novel by one of the most influential and celebrated voices in Latin American literature, Carlos Fuentes. This novel is considered as a fantastic literature for its remarkable description of dreamlike themes and the complexion of “double identity” portrayed by the characters. The story centres around Felipe Montero who is employed in the house of an aged widow to edit her deceased husband's memoirs. There Felipe meets her beautiful green-eyed niece, Aura. His passion for Aura and his gradual discovery of the true relationship between the young woman and her aunt propel the story to its extraordinary conclusion. If you understand approximately 80% of the below extract, we recommend you joining us for this session. FUTURE EVENTS: The book club is held once a month, with a different book each month. We change the country, theme and style of literature, and always choose highly acclaimed books by great authors. ¡Esperamos verte pronto!
