      Hyon Gyon

Parasol unit presents for the first time in the UK and Europe a solo exhibition of works by Korean artist Hyon Gyon. Known for her intricate and highly expressive paintings and sculptural installations, Hyon Gyon explores themes of sociocultural identity, grief, anger and sexual politics associated with growing up in a male-dominated society in South Korea. The artist combines traditional Korean textiles, Japanese paper and paint with less conventional media, such as found objects, wax, plaster, gold leaf, and foam. Her assemblages are powerful fusions of vivid colour and emotions that appear to collide yet live in unity within each work.

Curated by Ziba Ardalan, Founder/Director of Parasol unit, the exhibition is accompanied by a tailored programme of educational events and a comprehensive publication.
Parasol unit appreciates the generous support of The Great Britain Sasakawa Foundation.
