      A FEMINIST'S GUIDE TO DINOSAURS

Join BAHP at the Natural History Museum for an incredible introduction to the history of Women in the field of Paleontology and Geology! Introducing a huge variety of themes through a guided tour of the Natural History Museum, from the hidden stories of the Female Scientists whose work has been relegated to footnotes of history, to the current challenges facing women in the field today. Expect fossils, stunning ancient rock formations, ancient Hominins and DINOSAURS, expect to see the collection at London’s most beautiful museum in a totally new light!   From Mary Ann Woodhouse Mantell, a competitor for the first discoverer of the first dinosaur, to Mary Buckland, and Mary Anning, through this class students will learn about the trailblazing women barred from the Geological Society, the lack of diversity in geoscience and the first known black geologist Marguerite Thomas Williams, as well as the work of scientific rebel Lynn Margulis.   This class is an LDG/BigArtHerstoryProject honorary class with the morning’s tour of the museum led by Emma Jude, a Fellow of the Geological Society, with a BSc in Geology and MEarthSci in Palaeontology from Oxford and a MSci in Petroleum Geology from Imperial College London. Emma is currently working on a project restoring the infrastructure and engineering of the Rumaila oilfield in Iraq. She has also recently completed a Foundation (Art&Design) where her final project focused on lost landscapes through the lens of museums and how we as visitors interact with museum collections, we are VERY excited to have her!   The afternoon’s drawing session will be led by our resident Feminist Drawing Tutor Luisa-Maria MacCormack, with exercises concentrating on drawing from the incredible textures, layers, fossils and leaps of imagination that the museum has to offer!
