The awards programme, dubbed the 'Green Oscars', takes place every year alongside the Renewable Energy Finance Forum (REFF) London and is the perfect platform to celebrate the achievements in the private sector that drive continued growth in the renewable energy industry.

At the the Euromoney and Ernst & Young Global Renewable Energy Awards 2007, held in London last September, there were 12 winners in total, in categories ranging from IPO of the Year, M&A of the Year and Climate Change Investment Programme of the Year.

The Euromoney and Ernst & Young Global Renewable Energy Awards were established to recognise the projects, companies and individuals who have made a significant contribution to the renewable energy sector.

'Green Oscars' Awards Night Recognises Excellence In Renewable Energy

Jonathan Johns, Head of Renewable Energy at Ernst & Young, says year on year the quality of finalists and winners is consistently high and this year's winners prove that the industry is growing from strength to strength. "Having been involved in the awards for the last five years, since their conception, the industry has moved from being niche to mainstream."

Mr Johns sees the growth of the industry showing no signs of abating. "Although the credit crunch has had an impact, renewables is the growth sector that is seeing its way through the recession driven by the need to combat climate change, the need for energy security of supply and rising fossil fuel prices.'
