Crack of Dawn: Ying Liang Roundtable

A roundtable discussion session featuring director Ying Liang, film critic Tony Rayns and scholars Jessica Yeung and Victor Fan.    Award-winning director Ying Liang is one of the most sought-after Chinese-language/Sinophone filmmakers in the international film festival circuit today. CVF is proud to present three of his most representative works to date: A Sunny Day, When Night Falls, and A Family Tour. We have also invited film critic Tony Rayns, as well as scholars Jessica Yeung (Hong Kong Baptist University) and Victor Fan (King’s College London), who have worked closely with or written substantially about the director, to conduct a roundtable discussion. In this roundtable, each of our participants will speak briefly about their views on Ying Liang’s works. They will then conduct a lively conversation with Ying Liang himself regarding his creative visions, his experience of working as an independent filmmaker in Mainland China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan, his migratory trajectory, and his collaboration with some of the top creative talents in the region.
