Book Launch: ''How to Lose a Country" with Ece Temelkuran

The Centre for Turkey Studies is delighted to invite you to the book launch of "How to Lose a Country: The 7 Steps from Democracy to Dictatorship" by acclaimed journalist and author Ece Temelkuran. The event will take place in Committee Room 1 of the House of Lords on Tuesday 12th of February from 7pm to 9pm and will kindly be hosted by Lord David Watts. Please note that security checks are required to enter the Houses of Parliament, we kindly ask you to arrive at 6.30pm, allowing the event to start and end on time. After more than a decade and a half in power, Turkey's ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) has become an early case study in the sometimes gradual, sometimes rapid slide towards authoritarian-populism and "How to Lose a Country" offers the warning signs for what has since become an increasingly international phenomenon. Ms Temelkuran will discuss these developments, drawing on her own experience to combine granular insights with a wider global perspective. Speaker biography: Ece Temelkuran is one of Turkey's best-known writers and political commentators. Having made her name as a columnist at national newspapers Milliyet and Haberturk, she is also the author of several award-winning works of fiction and non-fiction, including "Women Who Blow on Knots" and "Turkey: The Insane and the Melancholy".
